Splunk Tokyo Case Study
Splunk (NASDAQ: SPLK) is the leading platform for operational intelligence and machine data, which provides companies with valuable insights regarding their productivity and security. Headquartered in San Francisco, Splunk engaged Facilitate to design and build their first Australian offices in Sydney and Melbourne. Facilitate worked with the Splunk Facilities manager in San Francisco and the IT managers located in London and Dallas throughout the projects. It was truly a global collaboration.
Facilitate in partnership with SLA designed the offices in line with Splunk vision and branding, which can be described as fun, energetic and disruptive. The office was uniquely ‘Tokyo-fied’ which included design elements that identified its location in each of the cities. One of the first aspects you see in each of the offices is a bespoke urban art piece in the reception area, which incorporates the iconic features of the city and aspects of Splunk’s brand. The meetings rooms in each office were named after recognizable local trains, which supports the entertaining speed in which the fitout was manage in. The fit out has an industrial aesthetic, as well as a warm welcoming reception area. All workstations are sit to stand, placed in an open plan layout.
Splunk places high importance on collaboration and participation so the kitchen area doubles as a bar for social events and entertaining staff and clients. This extends out of the breakout area around the kitchen, which continues with the industrial and energetic feel; including lots of flexible and mobile seating areas that can be repositioned depending on the event.
The Splunk fitout in Melbourne was the first fit out in Rialto towers to be designed with open ceilings and industrial feel. Facilitate worked heavily with the building managers and owners to create new solutions for air conditioning and electrical aspects. Facilitate advocated for this design to be approved on Splunk’s behalf to ensure they received their vision of office design that was in line with their company brand. The building owner was happy with the new industrial design and is now using it to showcase the building to other tenants.
